Dream Scrolls is an open-source, collaborative AI-assisted storytelling platform. You create characters with rich descriptions, build story worlds with lore books, and then write alongside an AI that plays your characters in turn — giving you a living, evolving narrative where the AI handles any character you are not personally controlling.

Three Ways to Get Started

1. Browse Discover and Play a Scenario

The fastest way to try Dream Scrolls. No setup required.

  1. Open Discover from the navigation bar.
  2. Browse Discover Scenarios — filter by language, tags, or search by name.
  3. Click a scenario card to read its description and character list.
  4. Click Clone — this creates your own private copy of the story with a fresh message history.
  5. Click Play on the new story and start writing.

2. Build a Story from Scratch

Best when you have a specific world or character concept in mind.

  1. Go to Characters → Create Character and create at least two characters: one persona you will play, and at least one AI character.
  2. Go to Stories → Create Story, fill in the name, scenario, and pick a generation template.
  3. Attach your characters to the story in the story settings or from the play screen's Characters tab.
  4. Optionally, create a Lore Book under Lore Books → Create Lore Book and attach it to the story.
  5. Click Play and begin your story.

3. Play Multiplayer with Friends

Share a story with other users so each person incarnates their own character.

  1. Create or open a story and click Play.
  2. Open the config panel (the settings icon on mobile, or the right panel on desktop).
  3. Go to the Participants tab and copy the invite link.
  4. Share the link with your friends — they will join the session and can take control of characters.
  5. In the Characters tab, each player clicks Voice on the character they want to control.
  6. The AI generates responses for all characters nobody is currently incarnating.
